From Hanoi to Croke Park: Daniel Burke Receives GAA Presidential Award

Building Gaelic Games in Hanoi
Daniel Burke, ACB Children’s Development Officer and a leading figure with Viet Celts GAA Club in Hanoi, was honoured at Croke Park on 30 January 2026 as recipient of the International Award at the 2026 GAA President’s Awards. The award recognises Burke’s outstanding contribution to the development of Gaelic Games overseas and celebrates years of coaching, mentoring and community work across Asia. Originally from Drimnagh in Dublin, Burke has become a leading figure in the growth of Gaelic Games across Asia through his work with Viet Celts GAA Club in Hanoi.
Championing Youth Development
Since moving to Vietnam in 2017, he has dedicated countless hours to coaching, mentoring and promoting Gaelic Games, helping to build one of the strongest and most vibrant GAA communities in the region. A passionate advocate for youth development, Burke has played a key role in expanding opportunities for young players across Asia. His work has contributed to youth competitions, coaching programmes and initiatives that have introduced hundreds of children to Gaelic Games.
Recognition at Croke Park
The award was presented by GAA President Jarlath Burns at the Association’s headquarters. It recognises not only Burke’s commitment to sport, but also his dedication to community building and volunteerism. His work has helped strengthen connections between clubs across Asia while creating a welcoming environment for players and families alike. Receiving a Presidential Award at Croke Park is one of the highest honours in the GAA, and Daniel Burke’s recognition is a fitting tribute to the lasting impact he has made on Gaelic Games far from Irish shores.
